I worked hard this week and feel like I really pushed myself. It's a pretty great feeling! I hope you all enjoy this roundup and find my first steps into discovering a new medium as interesting as I did.
I call this the "my toddler is having a tantrum in public" smile. This one was less about capturing my likeness and more about playing with expression and drawing a more realistic person. The interesting part about doing this roundup is that I get to see all my work for the week in one place. I'm pretty surprised and intrigued that this one is my favorite.
An attempt at a little comic. It's amusing to me but I'm not in love with the artwork. I should have taken the time to work at least a little bit from a model.
I briefly played with digital a couple of years ago but I have no training or real practice with it. I'm pretty pleased with my little balloon fairy as it is my first attempt in years and I'm working entirely on my phone. I love how she floats in the air!
This one was mostly playing with layers and moving objects around on the page. I only drew my little guy once and then copied and rotated him. I then went on to add some shading. I like the crayon lines and think this would be a neat style for a children's book aimed at toddlers.
These two were both about experimenting and learning my new medium. The sea creature one I purposefully tried to make busy and I was going for simple with the dragon.
I have decided to try and work on developing my digital skills but I can honestly say I feel like digital lacks a certain depth and maybe soul? I very much prefer to work by hand. However, that may be just because I have a lot to learn. I'm sticking with it for now partly for practical reasons (pens are expensive and mine are running out), partly for professional reasons, and partly because it's now a challenge. Here's hoping I can find some soul in digital!
Hi! I'm Elisabeth McCamish! I'm an artist and illustrator. I take most of my inspiration from my family, my garden, and any passing whimsy. I do a weekly roundup of what I'm working on here. For daily updates check me out on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Enjoy!
